Department: Computer & Information Systems

Jean has 25 years of experience working for Bell Laboratories/AT&T/Lucent/Avaya. Because of her consistent contributions, and leadership to large development teams, and delivery of software systems, she rose through the ranks from Member of Technical Staff to Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, then to Consulting Member of Technical Staff, and eventually to director.   At times, Jean dealt with customers of products being developed, and with suppliers of components that were acquired. She traveled across the country meeting with potential corporate clients.

Jean’s technical focus is on networks.  One of the networks she architected and oversaw its construction was one that connected systems in Arizona, Virginia, and New Jersey.  While at VTC, she expanded the course offerings in the Information Technology degree to a complete program that competes with any in the area.  This allowed VTC to become a Cisco Academy.  Working with other faculty, she enhanced the curriculum of the CIS Department to a rich mix of courses. Her management experience allowed her to easily assume the role of department chair of the CIS Department.

Jean holds two US patents in Telecommunications which were granted in the US and Europe. She is a graduate from Seton Hall University and New Jersey Institute of Technology. She also is a Cisco Certified Professional.

I am an assistant nursing professor with Vermont Tech at the Williston campus, working with practical nursing students and laying the foundation of their nursing education through our ADN and online BSN program. I have worked for Vermont Tech since 2008, first as a clinical instructor for the ADN’s in Williston, and then continued on to full-time faculty in the practical nursing program.  My nursing specialties include nursing education, medical/surgical nursing, hematology and oncology nursing, leadership, and simulation. I am oncology certified, as well as a medical/surgical board certified nurse. I received my MSN in Nursing Education in 2010 and my Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2014. I am a member of the Vermont Organization of Nurse Leaders and was selected to participate in their Leadership Fellowship program bringing nurses to the forefront of healthcare.  I am also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, Northern Vermont Oncology Nursing Society, and the National League for Nursing.  I am also an in-patient hematology/oncology nurse at Fletcher Allen Healthcare.  I am the creator and coordinator for the Vermont Walk for Williams Syndrome.  I am Vermont Tech Alumni, and have worked through all levels of nursing from Licensed Practical Nurse to Doctor of Nursing Practice.  My passion is nursing education and integrating new technologies to meet the demands of today’s practice.  I see nursing as a profession with endless possibilities and always strive to instill this in my students.  I enjoy teaching the practical nursing students as this is the beginning of their nursing careers.  I also believe in loving what you do as a nurse and helping my students find the love of nursing in themselves.  I keep busy with three young boys and enjoy running whenever I can get outside: rain, snow, or sun.

I joined the Vermont Tech faculty in 2002 and immediately found it to be an exciting and rewarding place to teach.  I currently serve as the chair of the Mechanical Engineering Technology department where we offer degrees in mechanical, manufacturing, and electromechanical engineering technology and renewable energy.  I currently teach courses in materials, statics, and energy systems.  In 2011 I spent a semester in Ireland at University College Cork studying wind power and energy modeling. Prior to joining Vermont Tech I taught at the University of Maryland and studied at the University of Washington where I had the chance to spend a summer at NEC in Japan working on optoelectronics technology. Outside of work I enjoy sailing, skiing, and spending time with my family.
